Lille or Belgium on Eurostar?

Posted by Allen

Hi there, i am hoping to plan a romantic break for my husband and self for the Autumn and was wanting to go on Eurostar to either Lille or maybe Begium.
Any suggestions?

Come to Belgium! Lot’s to see and lots to do!
Brugge is definitely a beautiful city if the sun is shining… (always a problem her in Belgium) but Gent is very nice to…
It depends really on what you are looking for…
You take the train to Brussels-South and right there you can change to an other train. Almost every major city is reachable without one hour and a half…
I included the link to the Belgian railways (nmbs) so you can look how long a train takes…and also take a look at the B-excursions…

Free or cheap place to crash for a few hours around Waterloo Station and/or Eurostar?

Posted by Allen

Over spring break, first week of April, I’ll be traveling from L. A. to JFK in New York, then on to London, landing around noon London time. Then about 4pm I’ll take the Eurostar to Brussels. Is there ANYWHERE in Waterloo Station or the Eurostar terminal or even nearby where I can crash for just a few hours? I’d prefer not to pay for a hotel room. What I really need is just a place to doss for a little while until it’s time to catch my train. I just need to get over most of the jetlag and get on European time before I proceed. Any help at all would be most appreciated. Cheers and thanks, K

If you are scheduled to land at noon, and then take the Eurostar at 4pm, I don’t think you’ll have time to ‘crash’! Four hours seems barely adequate time to clear Customs and get from Heathrow to Central London, you’ll probably have enough time to grab a coffee!

best Deals for Paris Package with eurostar?

Posted by Allen

we want to have a short breaks from london to paris for 4 or 5 nights with eurostar. Any body knows any place I can get the best price for the whole package

The 2 best priced packages I bought with the Eurostar were found on lastminute.com, my partner and I went to Brussels for 3 days and also to Paris a few months later. Might be worth the try, I don’t know if ours were specials or just standard fares but both times the hotels were ideally located and they were very good :)

Where I can sell my Eurostar vouchers? I've tried Ebay but they were removed for breaking a rule . . .?

Posted by Allen

. . . namely that you can't sell Eurostar tickets.

I really want to sell them otherwise they're just going to go to waste. Any ideas?

You're right, Ebay UK refuses to carry Eurostar tickets. But on the other hand Ebay France does carry Eurostar tickets. It seems that lots of English people have cottoned on now.
So they will probably carry Eurostar vouchers. I've sold plenty of Eurostar tickets on the French ebay, including signles from Londnon to Paris.
Another idea would be to simply go to Waterloo Station or Gare du Nord and sell them to someone queueing to buy tickets.
There are also a couple of French web sites re-selling railway tickets, including Eurostar (kellbillet.com and trocdesprems.com) but they are not really geared for selling vouchers but you can give it a try. Incidentally, reselling tickets in France is only legal if you sell them for not more than the price you paid.
How much do you want for them by the way and how long are they valid until?

Why is Eurostar's travel time of 1h 51 min from Brussels to St Pancras when it is possible in 1h 43 min?

Posted by Allen

Eurostar did a new record between Brussels and St Pancras, with a travel time of 1h43 without ever breaking the normal speed limits. Can someone explain me why their scheduled timetable has a fastest travel time of more than 1h51 and not the 1h43?
Thanks a lot

Recovery time and pathing allowance. The former allows for permanent way slacks (or speed restrictions) and any slight delays enroute. The latter allows for the fact that the train might have to give way to another train at a station or junction.

The 1h43 run was staged so that the track would be perfect and no other train would be in the way.

Basically it allows the train to arrive on time.
