Recent scholarship (meaning Shakespeare would not have known this) has revealed that the &quot;rules&quot; for theatre were not being given as strict guidelines by which to write a play; they were simply descriptions of dramas of the time.  I guess it&#039;s a subtlety of the Greek language but one of my English professors said what we considered to be rules for the longest time, or &quot;prescriptions&quot; of how one must do a play, were actually &quot;descriptions&quot; of the dramas written during the time of Sophocles and Euripides.&lt;br&gt;&lt;b&gt;References : &lt;/b&gt;&lt;br&gt;</description>
